I have been asked on many occasions to comment
concerning the differences related to the manner of deliverance each type of
ministry provides. I do not pretend to be an expert in this field, but I
have gained an appreciation for how God has worked in these two types of
ministry.
I need to say right from the start,
that God will not be limited in the ways that He chooses to administer His
grace. He is very creative in the methods He chooses to bring people to
Himself.
1. Public Deliverance
I include in this category any type of deliverance that has
been administered publicly, whether as a feature of a ministry in a public
setting or the spontaneous ministry that arises when a demonic
manifestation occurs in a worship service, bible study, fellowship meeting
or seminar.
What are some of the things God addresses through public
deliverance?
- God draws attention to the reality of demonic oppression and the need
for spiritual warfare.
- This type of ministry often happens spontaneously, surprising those
who will receive ministry.
- God builds faith – people see the power of God defeat the enemy.
- He shows people the wonder of His grace – people are set free despite
the sins still residing in their lives.
- Often, more bondage areas will surface as time passes. This
often opens the individual to seek deliverance counseling.
2. Deliverance Counseling
- This ministry is more private and confidential
- People seek out this type of ministry, because they recognize the
possibility of demonic influence in their lives and they want to talk to
someone about it and have their questions answered..
- The deliverance counselor approaches each case by first seeking to
ascertain the personal motivations of the heart and the willingness of the
person to take personal responsibility for his or her life.
- More attention is given to personal sin issues and true repentance.
- There is more of an opportunity to go deeper into the issues of the
person’s life.
- There is a greater possibility for a more thorough work and a more
permanent outcome.
- The depth of the deliverance will depend upon the cooperation and
obedience of those counseled.
Each ministry has its place in God’s plan. In many
respects, deliverance has some parallels with evangelism.

a. Public deliverance |
| b. Discipleship |
b. Deliverance Counseling |
Conversion and public deliverance
bring forth opportunities for new and unexpected freedoms. Discipleship and
deliverance counseling involve greater in-depth personal accountability and
responsibility, as a rule, so that the freedoms can be secured and
maintained. Some ministries incorporate both public deliverance and
deliverance counseling in their overall ministry to the oppressed. |
